Airtabs

Extended Description

A Complete Airtab® kit comes with enough Airtabs for one unit, spacing templates and instructions.
This Kit contains 80 white Airtabs, enough to outfit one tractor or one trailer or 1 straight truck.

Airtab®'s are unique, Vortex Generators (VG) that have been specially designed for trucks. They work by creating a controlled swirl of air, or vortex which actually reduces wind resistance (or aerodynamic drag). At the back of the of the vehicle is an area where the air has to rush in to fill the space left by the vehicle. Since the air has to make a sharp bend around the squared-off back of the vehicle, this creates a lot of drag and turbulence. The drag from both areas takes engine power to overcome, and therefore fuel.

Streamlined cabs and fairings have made improvements, but there is still the problem of the large flat area at the back of the vehicle and, for tractor trailer units, the gap between the tractor and trailer.

Airtab®'s reduce drag at the rear in two ways. They radically alter the airflow pattern from a vertical one to a horizontal one. This eliminates the formation of large eddys, stabilizes the "ride" and increases fuel economy. By smoothing out the airflow, by making the airflow more streamlined, Airtab®'s artificially taper the rear of the trailer. Put another way, Airtab®'s make the airflow behave as if the trailer is narrower than it really is. This drag reduction results in less fuel consumed.

Airtab®'s have been tested in the wind tunnel , on test tracks and the real world highway. Drivers report improvements in visibility around their vehicle in wet weather. Airtab®'s reduce turbulence and the spray pattern from the vehicle improving visibility for both operator and other road users. This enhances safety. Because Airtab®'s drastically alter the airflow at the rear of the vehicle, the accumulation of road grime or snow is reduced. This prevents weight buildup, tail light and reflector obstruction in snow.

Airtab®'s pay for themselves by saving fuel and tire life. (At least) 4% saving on fuel, pays for the costs of installing Airtab®'s and they are zero maintenance. Most Trailers or Tractors require between 75 to 85 Airtab®'s so price may vary slightly depending upon vehicle.

What does 4% Fuel saving mean to you?

400 Miles Free every 10,000 miles
Driving 100,000 miles a year gives you 4000 free miles.
At 10 mpg every 100,000 miles you get 400 free gallons of fuel.

Mount these Airtab®s on 4" centers (3 per lineal foot) around the trailing edge of your tractor, trailer, RV, pickup camper shell, utility trailer, etc. to get all the fuel-saving benefits of Airtab®!

Each Airtab is 3.25" wide x 4.76" long x 1" high.

Application Notes and Considerations
ALWAYS read the installation instructions included with your order BEFORE installing Airtabs®.

Airtabs must be installed when the air temperature is above 40°F (5°C). Attempting to install Airtabs when colder will yield unsatisfactory results.

If you operate a trailer or dry van body equipped with a Kemlite® roof, you must use Airtabs with the special adhesive for Kemlite. Other than the special adhesive, the Airtab is identical in every way.

Reefer trailers or dry van bodies with ribbed sides may prevent proper spacing of Airtabs. Please call (800) 475-2155 for consultation before ordering.

For Tractor-Trailer Application:
When using Airtabs, maintain a tractor-trailer gap of 40" or less
The Airtab will have an adverse effect if the tractor-trailer Gap is larger than 40 inches because it will direct airflow onto the front face of the trailer. The distance is measured from the closest point of the tractor or extenders (fairings) to the leading edge of the trailer. If you have questions Please call (800) 475-2155 for consultation before ordering.

For tractors without a top fairing: If you look at the tractor/trailer from the front (head on) and you are able to see more than 24 inches of the trailer, then Airtabs is not appropriate for the tractor roof. By adding a fairing that matches the trailer height and then adding Airtabs you will see a significant benefit. If you have questions, please call (800) 475-2155.

Kenworth T2000 tractors require special mounting procedures for Airtabs. Please call (800) 475-2155 for consultation before ordering.

Do not attempt to mount Airtabs on a flatbed trailer. There is no aerodynamic benefit on a flatbed.

Not the right color for your vehicle?
Airtabs are fully paintable using standard automotive finishes. Also available in Black. Or, consider clear Airtabs, which allow the color of your vehicle to show through.
